Two New Arrivals for Our Meerkat Mob at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo!
5th Jun 2025
We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of two adorable new additions to our slender-tailed meerkat mob here at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo! Born to Mosegi and Arianna on the 4th of May 2025, the pups are thriving under the watchful eyes of their parents and the supportive care of the rest of the group, bringing our total mob number to nine!
Slender-tailed meerkats are incredibly social animals, living in close-knit groups known as "mobs" or "gangs." At birth, meerkat pups are tiny, weighing just 25–36 grams, and are born with their eyes and ears closed. These new pups spent their first couple of weeks tucked safely in the den, bonding with mum and growing stronger each day.
Eyes typically open around 10–14 days of age, and soon after, the pups begin to explore the world outside the burrow under the protection of the adults. By three weeks old, they start joining the group on short foraging trips — always supervised by older members of the mob, who take turns teaching them essential survival skills like digging, foraging, and keeping watch for predators.
On Saturday 7th May and Sunday 8th June visitors to the zoo will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite names from 3 lovingly selected options!
Our newest zoo babies are out and about most days so be sure to pay them a visit on your next adventure to the zoo!
