Catering and Retail Supervisor


Full Time - Permanent – 40 hours per week - weekends and Bank Holidays on rota.

Salary circa - £17.500

Reporting to - Operations Manager and the Partnership Retail & Catering Manager

Job Role

The primary role of this position is to ensure the Catering operation at the zoo runs efficiently and smoothly so our visitors have a happy experience throughout their visit. You will also oversee the Gift shop and Admissions at times. The position requires you to work alongside another Retail and Catering Supervisor covering each other on days off etc.

-You will need to have Previous Catering experience essential to organise all aspects of our small, but busy Café.

-The personality and positive manner to be a role model for our junior and seasonal staff in both departments.

-Maintaining and overseeing the cleanliness of the zoos facilities. Rotating/displaying shop stock and re-ordering when required Experience in “cashing up” and use of tills.

-Excellent customer service skills are essential to deal with our visitors and any arising complaints

-An ability to work under pressure during our busy times Awareness of all health and safety compliance requirements.

-The ability to work as part of a small team co-ordinating with animal, education and event staff. ---

-Some experience in food preparation and the importance/regulations of food safety.

-An interest in running and overseeing coffee shop in the absence of the Catering/Retail Manager

-An ability to encourage and train junior staff to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.

-Experience in a similar senior position is desirable.

-Good public transport to Battersea Park - please note we do not have a staff car park (Although you may be able to find other local parking)

Retail and Catering Assistant

We are looking for friendly, hard-working and pro-active people to join our Retail and Catering team. 

Part-time and flexible contracts available. Whether you are looking for something seasonal while you study or something more permanent, we may be the place for you. 

Battersea Park Children's Zoo is a family run zoo based in the iconic surroundings of London's Battersea Park. 

Job Role

A normal day starts at 9am and finishes between 5:30pm and 6:15pm. We are open 7 days a week, all year around.

• Sale of tickets and souvenirs in our admissions and gift shop

• Preparing and serving hot snacks, sandwiches, drinks etc in the zoo café serving hot treats, snacks and drinks

• Displaying shop and café stock

• Providing exceptional customer service

• Maintaining the cleanliness and standards and the zoo's facilities.

• Ensuring the visitors of all ages have a positive experience during their visit.

• Liaise with animal keepers, education and events team.

About You

You must be friendly, confident and approachable. 99% of this role requires you to be customer facing.

You will be joining our small retail and catering team and will be expected to be involved in a variety of duties.

You should be able to work under pressure during our busy periods.

You should have experience handling cash and cards and you will trained to use our tills.

Experience within a food service environment is an advantage and a willingness to learn is essential.

This role requires to spend long periods of time on your feet and carrying stock to different locations in the business.

You should live within 1 hour travelling distance and be able to offer a minimum of 2 days a week of availability, with at least one of these days being a weekend.
